25 Things About Me 09/13/09

A couple of weeks ago I was tagged to write 25 things about myself that most people don?t know. For whatever reason, I just found out about this the other day. So now here it is. One thing that I thought was interesting to note is that I am typing this on a Thursday morning at 10:41 am from the lake next to my house. I?m just leaning against a tree in the shade and typing. Now this is the lifestyle that I quit my job for. Anyway, here?s the list?
1. I used to play guitar in a band. We were a rock band and we played a lot of shows. The largest crowd that I ever played in front of was 5,000 people. We were called Four Chambered Story and we were a punk band that screamed a lot.
2. In the winter time, I take my Suzuki Samurai out to the Borrego Desert and 4 wheel drive around the dunes. It is great because, unlike a motorcycle, my wife and I can ride side by side in the same vehicle.

3. When I was in middle school and high school I played basketball but I?m not a huge fan of watching basketball on TV. I tend to root the Los Angeles Lakers once they get in to the playoffs.
4. My favorite sport to watch is (American) Football and I am a huge fan on the San Diego Chargers. I am writing this at the beginning of football season and we are supposed to have one of the best teams in the league this year. I can?t wait!
5. I have a dog named Alfie and he is a mix breed terrier. We rescued him from an animal shelter and we still don?t really know what breeds he has in him.
6. I have two cats. I have a big white cat named Mickey and a little black cat named Thursday.
7. I own my own home. My wife and I bought it about one year ago when I was 25 years old and she was 24.
8. I was recently married. My wife, Alana, and I got married in May of 2009 and we went on our honeymoon in Cozumel, Mexico.

9. My two favorite shows on television are Dexter on Cinemax and Entourage on HBO. I have never missed an episode of either one of those.
10. My absolute favorite band of all time has always been Blink 182. I listened to them throughout high school and they were the first concert that I ever saw. I saw them in a little tiny venue here in San Diego when they were just a little local band that no one had heard of yet.
11. I used to ride quads and motorcycles frequently in the desert until an incident when Joe Fier and I collided. Since then, I?ve pretty much stuck to just off-roading the Samurai.
12. Growing up, my dream job was to be a jet pilot. My wall was covered with posters of jets and I had a jet bedspread. Somewhere along the line, I became fascinated with entrepreneurship and started focusing on learning business.
13. Two of my favorite movies of all time are Happy Gilmore and The Boondock Saints. I have probably seen both of those movies twenty times each. They never seem to get old.
14. I learned computer programming at the age of 10 years old. My neighbor?s mom was a computer programmer and she loved to teach us how to make simple programs in Qbasic. It always fascinated me and I continued to learn more and more programming languages as I got older. I have never taken a computer class in my life.
15. I created my first website at the age of 15. I used to create websites on Angelfire and GeoCities about my favorite video games at the time. I was even hired to develop a business website around that same time. I have always created websites using Notepad and, to this day, I wouldn?t think of using anything else. (Other than WordPress for blogs)
16. I started experimenting with internet marketing back in 2006. A customer at my previous employer turned me on to a site called ShoeMoney.com. From that point on, I have always been in and out of experimenting with making money online.
17. My first blog ever was about personal finance and entrepreneurship. It?s still online today because it still makes money every month. It hasn?t been updated in quite a while, however. You can find it at HowIWillBeRich.com
18. The only country that I have ever been to outside of the United States is Mexico. It?s actually a 20 minute drive from my house. I want to pretty much see the whole world some day but I just haven?t gotten around to seeing very much yet.
19. I have a very extensive collection of vinyl records. I mainly collect classic rock. I even have records hanging on the wall in my office. Some of my favorites in my collection are Pink Floyd?s Dark Side of the Moon, Boston?s greatest hits, and The Beatles White Album.
20. My favorite book of all time is The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. I have probably read it three times now and I have bought it on audio cd to listen to it in my car as well.
21. I am a huge fan of Mexican food. I probably eat burritos at least 4 days per week. When you live in San Diego, and you are this close to the border, Mexican food is everywhere.
22. I used to be a huge video game nerd growing up (as if you couldn?t tell by my fascination with computer programming and creating websites). My two favorite games were Sid Meier?s Civilization and StarCraft. I still play both of those games to this day when I am bored.
23. As of writing this, I am two weeks away from finishing a college degree. My degree is a Bachelors of Science in Finance of all things. I have always been good with numbers and accounting so it seemed like a natural choice. I wanted to learn how to manage investments better and make financially sound decisions.
24. I own a ski boat with my dad. We like to go to the Colorado river during the summer. I am usually the driver and my wife loves to wakeboard.

25. My number one goal in life is to be known by people. I want to be someone that leaves a mark. Even if I am someone who is known online, I will be happy. I strive to be the next Frank Kern, Mike Filsaime, Rich Schefren or John Reese. I just want people to have learned something from me and to reference my name when they talk about how they got their start. It?s a lofty goal, but it?s what I strive for.
Those are the 25 things about me. Most of them I haven?t really shared with anyone. Please feel free to leave your comments and I encourage anyone to make the same post on their blogs. I love learning about other people.
BTW, 25 things is a really big number once you get started. It?s really hard to come up with that much!

I also love Happy Gilmore thats a funny film haha..
I will have to watch an American Football game with you buddy when I come over, (on tv) I used to watch it as a kid late at night and always liked the excitement but ive NEVER understood the rules, you can fill me in.. Perhaps once I understand how it works ill be able to finally play Madden on the xbox

Hey Matt,
Very interesting list, where shall I start?
#1 I would have never guessed you were once in a rock band, I imagine you with longer hair in rock band days, am I right?
#5 That’s great to hear, a lot of those rescue shelter dogs often make great pets, it’s something more people should do.
#8 Congratulations on your recent marriage.
#14 Computer programming at 14, wow!
#20 I recently purchased The 4-Hour Workweek after hearing about it on the coaching. I just need to start reading it now..lol
#25 Great goal mate, I think we’re all striving for that to some degree. I definitely want to leave a mark in history, both on the internet and in many other ways offline.
It was nice to learn more about you, Matt.
Take care,
Paul.

I’m trying to scrounge up an old picture from my band days. If I can’t find anything, I may be forced to upload one of my old videos to YouTube. You are correct with your assumption though.
Matt
Hi Matt,
Very revealing post about you.
I’m impressed with your computer accomplishments and skills at such an early age.
That is in great contrast with me. Months ago I didn’t know how to copy and paste
But we do have some things in common to considerable degree.
One of them is in having played music in a band. I was lucky to perform in front of only 500 to 900 people. 5000 only in a dream.
I like the way you mention your dog and cats. I love dogs and cats and most animals.
You mentioned the Beatles. Turning classical now. Their music, most of it is timeless.
I think and hope that you will achieve your lofty goals.
You are already a good part of the way there.

Hi Matt,
Great list but I gotta say something. This disturbed me greatly…
Now… obviously you missed the word “for” in between the words “root” and “the” or man, that was a massive overshare! If it IS the latter, then do you do the entire team all at once, or is it just one or two at a time? Also, ever considered changing your name to something like Ivan Humpalot, or the like, wearing a false moustache and making some money off “that” sector of the community via videos? Supposedly it’s quite acceptable now. Supposedly.
Pardon me for a moment Matt, I just seem to have a little bit of spew I need to spit out…
… ahh, that’s better.
Back to some semblance of decorum…
#5 – Does your dog know what it’s all about? (You may, in fact, be too young to get that.)
#10 – You OBVIOUSLY have never heard of Noddy Holder and SLADE. Have you? Of course not! Or you would have listed them.
#19 – I have about 600-700 vinyl records. One is Billy Thorpe’s “Gold” album which is very rare and allegedly worth several hundred dollars.
#25 – If I had your surname I would develop a logo and brand myself as “The Lone Wolfe.” THAT would ensure you become memorable.
Finally, I LOVE that header – one of the very BEST that I have seen. Having said that it still pales into insignificance against mine. (hehehe)
Well done dude – and don’t take hardly anything I said seriously except… all of it.

Hey Matt
It took a while but your 25 were well worth waiting for. Wonderful about the dog and the cats. I believe I saw them on your video about “YOUR CASA” a while back. Gary idea about “the lone wolfe”. could be a good idea. Maybe get the domain and hang on to it for awhile, for awhile if you don’t have a current use for it right now. Very glad you are getting ahead in the im world.
Glenn

As if Gary, (The King Lemur) has any room to talk. You gotta watch him, Matt. I could go a couple places with that, but it’s your blog and I won’t do that.
Great list. I used to play with quads, but one son moved out and the other wasn’t interested, and I blew the transmission in mine plowing snow. I’m too old to even recognize any of the bands and I am the ORIGINAL owner of several vinyl records, noe rare though.
And much thanks for your help on my blog, just think, I can say, “hey, you know the guy that made millions on the ‘net? The Lone Wolfe? He helped me with my blog once!”
Take care,
Gene

Yo Matt,
I feel your pain with this marathon of a post… writing 25 things about yourself is definitely difficult!
Surprisingly (or maybe not) I knew every one of these things… but maybe I’m kind of an exception here.
#11 was definitely not a fun time, but I KNOW we bounced right back to our feet and had a cold one to calm the nerves. We’ll get on those quads in the future years!
And #22… it’s too bad we didn’t know each other in the StarCraft days. I had a pack of friends who were addicted to that game. We were lacking the Wolfe to complete our pack!
Great list, man. Glad you got around to it!

Great post Matt! My favorite part is that you are a Charger fan… as I live in San Diego as well and have been a fan FOREVER!
My favorite book is Tim’s 4-Hour Work Week as well… and I definitely want to leave a mark with my life!

Wow Matt we have never met, but I now know a lot more about you. Great list! I don’t know if I could come up with 25 things.
I saw you have vinyl record collection…Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon! I have to say I am a Pink Floyd Collector. Well I used to buy some stuf before I had kids
. One of my favorites is I have an Animation Cell from the “Wall” Movie. Maybe someday I will actually be able to put it up in the house. Though my wife doesnt really want me to display it in the living room…well someday.

Hey Matt,
Great list. I agree with you on Civilisation. One of my alltime favourite games also.
Make sure you follow up on your goals of travelling the world. I know you are still young and there is plenty of time, but it will fly.
Also I love point 25. Dream big Dreams & keep up the great work.
Rob
Hey Matt,
Wow, quite a list! It’s a bit of a jaunt coming up with the 25 like you say, but you’ve done a great job
I’m definitely with you on Happy Gilmore, only seen it the once, but Adam Sandler is a funny guy!
Looking forward to The Membership Classroom also, great work!!
Talk soon,

Haha. That lake is actually a lot bigger than it looks. That was a small portion of it. Here’s proof: http://www.santeelakes.com/
Cripes mate,
How on earth have you managed to squeeze a degree in as well?
It’s easy to see why you’re so at home with the technical side of things and how you make your WordPress Classroom video’s look so easy.
But got to agree with you on one of your favourite movies matt – Happy Gilmore – I’ve seen it about 5 times I think.
Great list,
Andrew.
P.S. Your wife is beautiful.

I really enjoy reading all your blogs. They keep me entertained but You forgot one thing..you didn’t say you have the best/coolest little sister (me) in the whole wide world! Wait a second…thats something that everyone already knows! nevermind
proceed!
Nice to get to know you a little better Matt. Wakeboarding is so much fun I miss my boat, havn’t been in wow, 6-7 years now. Almost make me said I lived on a lake and road everyday for about 3 years straight. Good times.

Whoever came up with the 25 things about me thing is a genius. It’s very difficult to write 25 things, personal things, and share them with the whole world.
Funny how most of us actually write about things we’ve never shared with anyone else before. Just goes to show that the internet can connect people. I think we mostly share these intimate things because we’re in such a great group of like minded people that you feel connected
(that’s how I feel with other Alex Jeffrey students anyway).
These posts really get people to know a lot more about everyone else.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Matt,
You’re right about it being tough to write 25 things. I cheated for my list
I used to write computer games, but never liked playing them – I think because of all the time I spent testing and improving them.
No.25 is a great goal. We all started in the same place, so why not?
Thanks

Hay Matt,
Very interesting read about your 25 things. I’m very impressed with the range of interests you have in your life.
In your young age you accomplished quite a bit.
I always learn something from your posts, I just have to
apply everything you teach.
Keep up the good work and you will be in the same class as the gurus that you mantioned.
Cheers,
